Mercy Street

Mercy Street

I am thrilled to be returning to the art | DBF stage of the Decatur Book Festival–my all time favorite festival on the planet–this coming Labor Day weekend with my excellent musical comrades, Ashley Filip and Ben Wakeman! As a trio we like to call ourselves Mercy Street, which is a particularly fortunate literary band name for this festival. The magical Peter Gabriel song for which we named ourselves is about the poet Anne Sexton, whose poem “45 Mercy Street” is one of my favorites.

We three have our own arrangement of the Peter Gabriel song, which we plan to perform at the book festival show along with a number of other literary themed songs–both originals and some covers that might surprise you. We hope to see you at the Community Bandstand (the gazebo stage) on the Decatur Square on Sunday, Sept 6, 3:15!

“Mercy Street is a trio of seasoned Atlanta area acoustic singer-songwriters—Ashley Filip, Ben Wakeman and Allison Adams—who together weave rich sonic tapestries of stories, poetry and music. Their blends of guitars, mandolin, ukulele and vocal harmonies wraps around songs along with a wide range of themes such as the mysteries of space, death and laundry, and the wisdom of a life well lived. Upbeat, witty, thoughtful and literate, Mercy Street will engage your mind and heart and leave you humming.”
